The Lion is one of the African Big 5 Animals.  One of the most famous portrayals of this majestic animal is Simba in The Lion King.

Each animal is hand knitted with a mix of acrylic and cotton yarns and stuffed with a polyester toy stuffing. Use your “Shamwari” (meaning Friend in Shona language) to bring any story to life.

Handknitted in Zimbabwe by the Gogo Olive Charity Foundation, which empowers women to support themselves.  The Charity was formed to help females in prison support their families while in remand, and has expanded to include a group of determined Mothers/Gogo’s (affectionate term for Grandmother in Shona) and Daughters.  Their determination to control and contribute positively to their family’s lives while bringing joy through these animals, is why African Artisan is honored to represent them in the USA. 

Each item comes with a tag showing the name of the knitter and the name of the Shamwari (FRIEND in Shona language) that you have purchased
