Zimbabwean Batik Tablecloth

Batik is the name of the technique used to decorate cloth, mostly using wax and dye and has been practiced in Zimbabwe for many generations. Hand made using 100% locally sourced cotton, select areas of the batik are blocked out by brushing or drawing hot wax over the cloth and then the fabric is submerged in a natural liquid, whereby the wax acts as a color blocker. Starch batiks are most of an instant method where a slurry of starch is used to draw on the fabric, creating outlines of the design. The color is then directly applied by painting the textile dye on whereby the starch acts as a color blocker.  This gorgeous creation is suited for use as a tablecloth, wall hanging, tapestry, or bedspread.

Zimbabwe produces exquisite hand printed textiles traditionally patterned in the rich, vibrant colors of Africa, on locally grown fabric. Classy, unique and hand made these are a must to complete your decorating scheme or for that vibrant burst of tribal color.
